The Proposal
Nailing the art of press-ons
Known for its trendsetting nail art in Soho, NY, Paintbox built a reputation for high-fashion manicures featured in Elle, Vogue, and Brides. When they set out to launch their first-ever press-ons, they didn’t just want another drugstore product—they wanted to reinvent the category. To make a statement at NY Fashion Week, they partnered with Martian Arts to create packaging that elevated press-ons from a convenience item to a beauty accessory.
The Challenge
From drugstore to runway
Press-ons have long been associated with mass-market blister packs, lacking the sophistication and quality Paintbox is known for. The challenge was to break away from this stereotype, designing packaging that reflected the brand’s premium materials, innovative application method, and high-fashion aesthetic.
The Solution
Polished packaging
Martian Arts transformed the packaging into an extension of the Paintbox experience.
Instead of simply displaying the product, the design showcased how the nails would look when worn—turning the box into a style statement rather than just a container.
The result was packaging that felt aspirational, elegant, and distinct from anything in the drugstore aisle.
More than functional, it became a visual promise of beauty, perfectly aligning with Paintbox’s identity while setting a new standard for press-on nails.
